Herzog Railroad Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Controls Engineer for the Mechanical Research and Development team in St. Joseph, MO.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Controls Engineer will work closely with draftsmen/designers, engineers and project managers to design and develop all aspects of electrical control systems for railroad maintenance equipment.
  • Prepare electrical schematics. (AutoCAD Electrical or equivalent)
  • Electrical panel layouts and creation of electrical parts list for custom and standard products as assigned.
  • Follow up service of machinery at jobsite locations for operator assistance and/or operator training. Also, responding to requests for phone, email, or online services.
  • Assist with wiring, cable routing, marking, and inspection of machinery in assembly department
  • Prepare reports as required by management. (Proficient with basic Microsoft Office software.)
  • Assist in preparation of technical machinery information including operator’s manuals, electrical specification, field service reports, etc.
  • Analyze and resolve technical electrical problems
  • Familiarity with CAN protocols is a plus.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be a team player.
  • Must be physically able to climb onto railcars and equipment.
  • 10-20% travel may be required.
  • Salary will be based on experience.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or two year college or technical school preferred, but not required.
  • 1- 3 years related experience preferred, but not required

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Pass and maintain e-RAILSAFE pre-employment background check and safety certification.
  • Subject to motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Pass pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
