Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking an Assistant Superintendent in Dallas, TX.  The Assistant Superintendent will assist in supervising craft employees assigned to a construction discipline work area, i.e. Special Trackwork, Crossing Installation, General Track Construction, De-Stressing, Guard rail, etc.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise craft workers assigned to area of responsibility, provide liaison between field engineering and crafts to ensure construction complies with drawings and specifications.
  • Assist in planning work schedule, determining manpower levels, material quantities, equipment requirements, etc.
  • Monitor work performance and productivity of crafts to ensure project rules, procedures, safety requirements, environmental compliance, etc. are maintained.
  • Complete craft time cards to accurately reflect hours worked and coding.
  • Advise senior level superintendents and/or project management of potential problems, work interference, schedule difficulties, etc.; assist in circumventing/resolving such problems as required.
  • Maintain liaison with other departments, i.e., Purchasing, engineering, etc. as required to support, construction schedule.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.

 

Qualifications:

  • Construction Management/Civil Engineering degree preferred, but not required
  • Minimum 5 years construction engineering or similar experience preferably in supervisory capacity.
  • Railroad construction experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of various construction disciplines, union agreements/jurisdiction, cost control, scheduling, safety regulations, engineering drawings, and other documents required.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate craft performance essential.

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position
  • This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle. 
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times.
  • Work in extreme all-weather conditions; uneven surfaces; safety sensitive work environment
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces over sometimes great distances; frequently climb on/off equipment; climb ladders frequently
  • Use hands to perform activities involving grasping, turning, holding and pulling
  • Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery; bend, walk, stand and sit for extended time; and use hand tools
  • Exert 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
