HSR Constructors is currently seeking a Civil Superintendent for the Virgin Trains USA Phase II Project that runs between West Palm Beach and Cocoa, Florida, with offices located in Melbourne and Ft. Pierce. This 128 mile-long project includes the construction of new track, the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing track; bridges; road crossings; and associated railroad signals work.

 

HSR Constructors is a joint venture of three of the leading railroad and transit contractors in the nation: Herzog, Stacy and Witbeck, and Railworks; who have joined to construct this fast-paced, high-profile project

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise total construction effort to ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule.   Includes interfacing with client representatives, AE representatives, other contractors, etc.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise onsite functions (scheduling, engineering, material control, and may provide day-to-day direction of onsite administrative staff in accounting, purchasing, etc.).
  • Supervise craft employees and/or other contractors as required by the contract.
  • May authorize and/or approve all project personnel transactions, purchase requisitions, field design change requests, etc.
  • Provide technical assistance, i.e., interpretation of drawings, recommending construction methods and equipment, etc., as required.
  • Assist project management in developing and implementing project procedures, working documents, standards, etc.
  • Ensure all onsite personnel comply with project procedures, safety program requirements, work rules, environmental compliance, etc. Document all violations, notify project management, recommend/implement corrective actions as required.
  • Assume responsibility for productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials & equipment, and contractual performance of the project.
  • Perform additional assignments per Supervisor’s direction.
  • Manage equipment utilization.

 

Qualifications:

  • Construction Management/Civil Engineering degree preferred, but not required
  • Minimum 8 years in heavy civil construction management and/or craft supervision experience in similar facility construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of civil construction (technology, equipment, methods); craft agreements, jurisdiction, negotiations; engineering, cost control schedules and safety required.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills essential
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office

 

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position
    • This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle. 
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

 

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This position will be physically demanding at times.  This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces and vegetation including but not limited to rocks, inclines, beams, mud, wet, ice on a consistent basis.
  • Must be able to be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to moderately loud noises on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind.
  • Must be able to operate hand controls and drive various construction equipment on the job.
  • Able to carry various equipment and tools across uneven surfaces.
  • Able to grasp or squeeze various equipment and tools
  • Able to ascend/descend stairs
  • Able to lift up to 75 lbs
  • Able to tolerate static kneeling, bending, and squatting posture
  • Able to sit and stand for long periods of time
  • Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet.)
  • Available to work a 40 hour work week subject to overtime, on call and alternate shifts that may include weeknights, weekends and holidays.
  • Able to work in a safety sensitive work environment.
