Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently seeking an Assistant Controller in St. Joseph, MO to join our team.


Herzog Transit Services, Inc. currently provides passenger rail transport (Commuter Rail, Intercity Rail, DMU and Streetcar) operations and maintenance services for 15 client agency contracts located throughout the U.S.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in planning the objectives, methods and resources of short- and long-range financial operations of the company.
  • Provide oversight of all accounting and financial contractual obligations with the agreement services, including timely and accurate monthly invoice preparation and delivery to authorities
  • Recommend policies and procedures relating to financial and business practices of the company.
  • Assist in evaluating financial risks of contracts and participates in the bid review process.
  • Assist with financial statement preparation and analytical review of financials to management.
  • Support management with special projects and workflow process improvements
  • Perform additional duties as directed by Controller, Treasurer, and CFO.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties assigned.


Travel Requirements:

  • Approximately 25% travel to be expected.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years accounting experience required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Industry experience is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management required
  • Experience in general ledger, banking, payroll, forecasting, cash management, collecting receivables, job costing, sales and income tax.
  • Thorough knowledge of all relevant Federal, State and local requirements regarding financial records, pension, profit sharing, and the like is essential.
  • Must have excellent writing skills and be able to effectively communicate details.
  • Excellent attention to detail with accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills are a must.
  • Deadline-oriented, efficient, and accurate data entry skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • A self-starter with initiative, ability to multitask and change tasks at a moment’s notice.
  • Must be willing to grow and expand as job requires.

  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
